Raspbian Update Now Available

Today we get an update to Raspbian for our Raspberry Pi. This update brings the following:

  • Setup Wizard
  • Localization
  • Recommended Software (available in the Preferences menu)
  • New PDF Viewer
  • Chromium Browser v65
  • Better Support for Keyboard Volume Buttons
  • Control of Serial Port Console independent of Serial Port Hardware (in the Configuration menu)
  • Various bug fixes

If you are setting up a Raspberry Pi from scratch you can download the new Raspian image from the Raspberry Pi Foundations Downloads Page or if you want to upgrade your existing Raspberry Pi you can run the following commands:

  1. From the Raspbian Desktop launch Terminal
  2. From Terminal run:
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

To install the new PDF viewer run:

  • sudo apt-get install qpdfview051818_1941_InstallingM6.png
  • sudo apt-get purge xpdf

To install the Recommended Software program run:

  • sudo apt-get install rp-prefapps

And if you want to install the setup wizard (which I do not see any reason too):

  • sudo apt-get install piwiz

That’s it you now have a shiny new version of Raspbian on your Raspberry Pi. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
